Release 1.9 of VPS and VJS for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Posted by Ute Gillet on Dec 21, 2020 10:19:32 AM

Shortly before the Christmas break we stick to our promise of offering you regular releases of our extensions for visual planning in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and present you with version 1.9 of both  the Visual Production Scheduler (VPS) and the Visual Jobs Scheduler (VJS). Version 1.9.

As always, the complete release information can be found in the respective notes for VPS and VJS. Moreover, both new versions will be  available in AppSource soon.

#1 Improved reservation entry handling (VPS)

We enhanced the way of how reservation entries are taken into account by the VPS.

a) Broader scope

Until now, we only looked at reservation entries from one production order (line) to another. Now we also look at reservation entries that come from entities outside the manufacturing module - such as reservation entries from sales orders, job planning lines, assembly orders, etc.

b) More options for conflict handling

Users can now decide how they want to handle conflicts between existing reservation entries and actions they make in the planning board. Under Actions --> Administration --> Setup they now have three reservation entry conflict handling options:

  • Warn and reject
  • Decide
  • None

With "warn and reject", users get a message if they make drag & drop changes that cause a conflict with any existing reservation entry,. The message informs about the conflict, and then the drag & drop action is rejected. That way, the users cannot violate any existing reservation with the VPS.

With "decide", users get the same message if they make a conflicting interaction. Then they have the choice if they want to cancel or confirm the interaction. If they confirm, the conflicting reservation is removed.

With "none", users do not get any warning if he makes drag & drop changes that conflict with existing reservation entries.

#2 Performance improvement (VPS)

Due to a smarter calculation of the capacity curve we gained considerable loading and interaction performance improvements.

#3 Show/hide notification window (VJS)

When a job planning line gets moved behind the job’s end date or in case of a resource overload, a notification window pops up, informing the user about possible problems.

Some of our customers, however, didn't want to have this notification window to be shown and so we implemented a new option in the VJS Setup dialog where you can switch on/off this window.

#4 Custom fields (VPS & VJS)

In addition to the default fields available in tooltip, label and table text it is possible now to equip custom fields with data to use them in tooltip, bar label and table text.

#5 Support of alternative connection to Microsoft Base APP (VPS & VJS)

Some of our customers have changed the Microsoft Base Application according to their individual needs. This, however, entailed that our extensions could not be installed any more. So we set to work to also support these customers and with the current release we offer a version of the VAPS that also runs with an alternative connection to the Base App. Please note that this version requires Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 16.4 and higher.

That's it for today, I hope you'll enjoy the new functions and enhancements. Moreover, I'd like to thank you for your attention during the last year and wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a healthy and successful New Year!
