Customer Case Study: To-Increase Visual Job Planner for Microsoft Dynamics NAV RTC
| 17. July 2012 | Posted by Martin Karlowitsch under Dynamics NAV Gantt |
Timing is everything for companies that specialize in complex projects. To-Increase, a leading global ISV for Microsoft Dynamics, has utilized Netronic’s Gantt chart software to create a Visual Job Planner solution that gives users global-to-granular insight into time-sensitive jobs that determine successful project execution. The solution integrates seamlessly with the role-tailored client of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and extracts data from SQL server views, so that users work with a single system that eliminates the need to juggle windows and ensures all information is accurate and current. Notable features include:
- A data access layer that handles large volumes with high performance
- An installer for external components and SQL server views
- Views per job task, a cost breakdown structure by element and an activity structure by activity
As shown below, the Visual Job Planner links views for job tasks, elements, and activities so that it’s easy to expand, switch, and double-click your way into task details, resource assignments, loads, activities, and relevant budget lines.
The Planner incorporates information from Microsoft Dynamics NAV into graphical views that begin with a job list, which can show multiple advanced jobs or a single job.
Clicking a job will expand the view into a job task list, which includes work descriptions, budget and actuals aligned with start/end date periods, resources and item markers, and more.
Expanding a job task leads to job task details views and details can vary according to what task is expanded, but from the details view users can drill into elements, activities, and resources details.
As just one example, to avoid overtime costs and ensure deadlines are met, a user can click on a task resource, assess resource load, and then reallocate appropriately — in the example below, red indicates that load has extended into overtime hours.
Within the next few months, the solution will be enhanced so that users can schedule activities and change them directly in the Visual Job Planner, using drag-and-drop functionality. All information will be recorded in Dynamics NAV.
Adri Cardol, Product Manager Dynamics NAV Solutions of To-Increase, summarizes:
“Just as important, we will be using NETRONIC’s generic, flexible technology that enables us to create a wide range of graphical planners that simplify the art and science of project management.”
